How do I download the desktop app?

Go to https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads Then follow the instructions to download and install Microsoft Teams on your machine. 


What if I am unable to download the desktop version of Teams?

If you cannot download the Teams desktop application then you can access via the browser. The browser version of Teams has similar functionality to the desktop version, albeit not all. 


Are there any issues with using Teams via the browser?

It may be the case that your departments has placed some restrictions on certain browsers which could affect the use of Teams in this way. We advise that if you use Teams via the browser, then please use a compatible web browser, such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Also kindly inform the facilitator that you are using a web browser (and not the desktop application) so they are aware that some functions may not be available to you.

 

My security policy is blocking me from accessing Teams?

We advise you to reach out to your local IT department to get permission to use Teams on a personal device.

Can I test my access to Teams prior to the virtual workshop?

Within your Joining Instructions (issued 14 days prior to the workshop) there will be a test link for you to access and test that you have the basic functionality enabled that is required.

 

How do I join the meeting?

Use the meeting link in your joining instructions. Through this link you will either be prompted to open the meeting within your desktop app or browser version of Microsoft Teams.


How do I know if I’m in the browser or desktop? Check the taskbar for the Teams icon or a browser icon

 

Why isn’t my camera / audio working?

Try downloading the desktop application. If you are using a browser to access Teams then it may be that your organisation’s security policy blocking it. Please also check you are using a compatible browser such as Edge or Chrome. Also, access your devices Task Manager and refresh your MS teams from there, this will often solve these issues.


Why am I unable to share my screen?

If you are accessing via a browser you will need to allow access. Or it could be that your organisation’s security policy blocking it.


Why am I unable to view someone’s screen?

It may be that your organisation’s security policy blocking it.

Why am I unable to view the chat?

It may be that your organisation’s security policy blocking it.


Why is my mute / unmute button not working? Try to leave and re-join the meeting.

Why don’t I have the raise hand functionality?

Microsoft has not yet rolled this out to your department or your organisation security policy blocking it.


How do I get to and from breakout meetings? 

The facilitator will provide a link the first time you need to access a breakout meeting. You will then see the main meeting on hold in a floating panel in the top left. Click the resume button (play icon) to switch back to the main meeting.


Why can’t I see the floating panel in the top left / the button to take me back to the main meeting? 

If you are accessing via a browser or a tablet you may not be able to see this. Please ask the facilitator or support account to paste the main meeting link in the chat.


Why is a lag with the audio/video or why does it keeps freezing?

This could be due to your broadband connection. To reduce the bandwidth consumption, turn off incoming video

 

 

I am sharing my screen but learners can’t hear the audio on my video?

Please ensure you have ticked on “Include system audio” when sharing your screen.

 



Why can I hear both the main meeting and the breakout room? 

If you are accessing via a browser you may be able to hear both the main meeting and the breakout meeting. This is because when you join another meeting it opens in a new tab in your browser. Please make sure you close the main meeting tab when you join the breakout room. You can then return to the main meeting when by using the main meeting link which will be posted in the breakout chat. 


Can I share files?

You are unable to share files between facilitators and learners. All learners have been sent the print material but if you need to send anything additional please email them.
